Le Petit Trianon - San Francisco Showcase
The San Francisco Decorator Showcase this year is on a grand scale, taking over an 18,000-square-foot Presidio Heights home (3800 Washington Street) known as Le Petit Trianon, a circa 1904 mansion inspired by the original Chateau at the Versailles Palace in France. There are 43 spaces in the house, all of which have been reimagined by 52 interior and landscape designers in support of a local charity.
ATRA collaborated with Alexis Humiston of ABH interiors in her vision for the master bathroom spa by creating two limited edition collection pieces.
Alexis conceived of the master bathroom as a room of repose for Eloise, the granddaughter of Le Petit Trianon’s original homeowner, Cora Koshland. The bathroom has a fireplace, and, in a nod to the lifestyle of Eloise’s family, features a custom de Gournay wallpaper entitled “Paradise Lost”, replete with overgrown gardens, abandoned boats, and peacocks wandering a mystical landscape. While the wallpaper conjures a paradise of years gone by, the spa itself has been beautifully restored. There are pieces from around the world, including a fireplace, double shower, double vanity, freestanding tub, newly installed 100-year old French oak floors, elegant stone slabs, sumptuous velvet chairs, and a delicate brass and calcite blue coffee table from ATRA to create a new paradise of today.
Alexander Diaz Andersson was commissioned to create an impactful contemporary fireplace screen to add a masculine touch to this otherwise feminine room. The brutalist “Rising Sun” sculptural firescreen sits in the center of the room, catching the eye and complimenting the palette of the room with an oxidized blue brass frontage and polished brass plinths.
“I wanted to combine an unexpected range of pieces in one room, which I could only do by creating consistency and harmony in the overall color palette. ATRA’s ability to customize everything, from the calcite blue table top to the aqua patina on the screen, let me take risks while still feeling confident in the cohesiveness of the room.”
